This is a good Chettinad restaurant that belong to the Shyam Group (The Dhaba, Amaravathi, Shogun, etc). So almost all places, you will see these restaurants together.
We have tried quite a few branches in Chennai – RK Salai, T-Nagar, Besant Nagar, Velachery, Chrompet and found that the quality and service was good in most places, except Chrompet.
My most recent visit was with friends to the restaurant in Velachery. It was a friend’s treat and we were about ten of us for dinner. Good and tasty food, nice variety, quick service and nothing worth complaining at all ! There was a Dosa festival going on with some good choices on the menu.
I have tried their home-delivery quite a few times and that was also ok. Sunday lunch can take a while to be delivered because of the demand. Expect at least 45 mins to 1 hour for delivery.
A decent place to visit.

These are some of my favorite clicks outside India and I really treasure the Eiffel Tower and Canal Grande because they were clicked with an ordinary Olympus film camera 🙂
This review is for their restaurant in Velachery.
Since we stay close to this restaurant, it is obviously one of the “favorites” when we suddenly plan to eat out and have limited time at our disposal. It is better than many other options nearby.
The food is very good and tasty, and the service is quick. They have a wonderful variety of appams and they are made in a “live counter” so you can actually see it being made.
They have reasonably priced combos so you dont have to order too much and waste.
Most of the waiters dont speak Tamil 🙂 , so it might get a little difficult with Tamil names, better to point it out on the Menu and be sure to get what you ordered.
Since there are a couple of BPOs close by, there is a never-ending stream of people until late in the night. So be prepared for a wait for about 10 minutes to get a table.
They have an option of Home Delivery, the food arrives within reasonable time and is quite ok too, but only when you go and eat in the restaurant, you know what you miss when you order for home delivery.
Definitely worth a visit now and then !

We have been here with family about three times and the most recent visit was in August 2012.
First of all the place is a little difficult to find, I mean, its not a building with a big entrance on the main road, but more like an apartment. It is just next to the Wills Lifestyle store. You need to find the board, drive inside and the valet parking really helps here. The restaurant is on the second floor. There is a lift and it works, no issues 🙂
The ambience of the restaurant was good. Decent seating arrangements, small though. Once we felt the AC was a little too cold on our heads, but was soon adjusted.
The food was really very tasty and we all loved it. Have tried Chicken Sashlik with fried rice, Yoko special chicken sizzler, Prawn sashlik, and vegetarian too with Mushrooms and stuff, cant remember the name. All of them were tasty and no complaints at all ! We all liked it.
Those who would like to taste sizzlers should go here !

This review is for their T-Nagar restaurant.
They serve good authentic South-Indian food. Everything is fine and tasty, but grossly over-priced. They make money in all possible ways 🙂 They charge separately for idly molaga podi (thats a powder mixed with oil and eaten with idly/dosa). Even these things can be overlooked, when you pay Rs 200 for breakfast, wouldnt you pay another Rs 10 or 15 more? Thats also ok.
Getting a table is a nightmare. You have to wait outside the restaurant, give your name and seats required to the guy at the door and he will call out when the table is free. Basically the reaction on people’s faces when their name is called is nothing short of winning a lottery.
As I said earlier, food was good, nothing worth complaining. However, because of the crowd, you are constantly under pressure to finish fast. The Waiters expect you to order quickly, eat quickly and get out quickly. In fact, if you choose to delay it a bit, the waiter will ask you if your bill can be brought. Slow-eaters will struggle, similarly with kids, it is not a good idea.
If you have a catch a train and you only have 30 minutes to reach and want to finish breakfast within that time, THIS IS THE PLACE ! You will reach the station ten minutes in advance. 🙂

I stayed in this hotel on the night of 21/07/2012. I travelled to Coimbatore with my family to meet my grandparents and basically the plan was to spend most of the time at their place and just have a decent place to sleep for the night.
This hotel is in R.S.Puram and is easily accesible. There is an auto stand nearby, you may call for call-taxis, or take a bus. Getting to and fro is very easy.
The room was clean, beds/blankets were very neat, asked for an extra bed and it was also done immediately and was comfortable. There was an LCD TV and some Tamil channels and that worked fine. Ordered coffee from room service and got it quite soon. The AC worked fine as expected. There was a small balcony and fresh air and sunlight in the morning was a perfect start to the day. Overall the room was spacious, and clean for a good sleep.
Their restaurant is supposed to be one of the best options for vegetarian food in Coimbatore. I have eaten here earlier, but not this time.
Dont expect a plush ambience, lounge, etc as you enter. As the name states, it is a decent lodging, not a plush hotel. So be prepared for ordinary door handles (the old type with a seperate lock), old bathroom fixtures, etc, but nothing worth complaining.
Recommended for a visit with a purpose for just for a day or two. Not a place if you expect to relax for a long vacation.
Stayed July 2012, travelled with family
A wonderful place to visit. Nice ambience, a nice concept – grill on the table.
Nice variety for both non-vegetarian and vegetarian folks. in addition to what you barbeque on your table, you are served more starters, kebabs from the kitchen.
You can go on with the starters as long as you like within the stipulated 3 hours window. (Typically, for dinner, you have to reserve your table either at 7PM or 10PM or try your luck on a weekday in the evening. Weekends without reservation is just NOT a possibility).
Buffet spread for the main course is just ok, nothing really that shouldnt be missed. Probably after the binge on the starters, it makes you feel that way about the main-course.
Generally, we go there for starters+desserts, not the main course. 🙂
Once you are settled in your table, it gets better. But until you manage to sit, you have to put up with the crowd.
Overall, easily one of the best restaurants in Chennai. Definitely recommended.

It used to be a very good place to visit, nowadays hardly visible from the road after all new buildings have come up. Needs a facelift, a well-lit name board, bright lights and so on.
It has been a few months since we visited this place, cant remember April or May 2012. Earlier, we used to visit this place quite frequently. Their buffet is ok, not too great. Tiffin items like Dosa, idly-sambhar, etc have always been good.
Chat is ok in the evenings. Seating outside is not very clean, so better indoors.
Idly and Sambhar is still the best compared to other places in the neighbourhood.
Yes, once in a while!

During one of our visits to Bangalore, we went for the lunch buffet. The food was very tasty and they had a nice spread. The ambience was good and classy. Starters served at the table were very tasty.
Overall a good experience and would go there again !

This review is for the restaurant in Indira Nagar.
We are based in Chennai and we visited Bangalore for a couple of days and stepped in to try this restaurant on one of the days for dinner.
We were four and were with another family of three. So getting a table for seven was the biggest challenge. It took us about 25 minutes to get a table. Well, again, we spotted this and suddenly decided to drop in. We didnt have prior reservation, so probably wouldnt be so bad otherwise, but with 2 kids, it was definitely a struggle.
After getting the table, the service was not very quick. I understand sizzlers take time, but it could have been faster. We were too tired and hungry and each one was so focussed on their plate that we hardly spoke to each other until we ate a little.
The food was quite good, not worth complaining. I have had sizzlers just a few times earlier and I am not an expert to comment on this, but it tasted good and we were happy 🙂
Ultimately had a nice evening with family and I would definitely recommend this !
Tip: Not sure if reservation is available, if so, please book a table in advance.
