Street Food Scene at Ellis Road

A very underrated place in food circles. Located right behind Devi Cinemas, we were surprised to see this street so crowded at 1 AM. We were told, on weekends, the place buzzes with activity until 4AM before they call it a day! We visited on a Saturday night and it definitely looked nowhere close to shutting down around 1AM. There were a few stalls close to each other continuously dishing out food, trying to strike a balance between demand vs supply, quite impressively! Continue reading

Krishna Restaurant, New Woodlands Hotel

Krishna Restaurant in New Woodlands Hotel is one of the few places in Chennai which still retains the old-world charm, reminds you of the nice feeling of having visited it with parents as a kid. Some of the other similar places which bring back pleasant memories are Hotel Palmgrove, Hotel Maris, Hotel Ashoka, to name a few! I’ve been here a few times and it has been pretty much the same always, good food and service. Continue reading

Masaledaar Firangi Tadka, Velachery

Masaledaar Firangi Tadka recently opened their outlet in Velachery. I remember hearing about their Nungambakkam branch in food circles, and was quite glad when they opened in Velachery. I was waiting for an opportunity to visit and today a friend and I made up a quick plan to eat lunch here. Continue reading

Pappa Roti, Velachery

This is not quite worthy of being called a review as I barely sampled one standard offering from them. I’ve been seeing absolutely tempting pics of the bun that Pappa Roti serves, so was quite curious to see what the fad was all about ! Continue reading

Kapao Dos, Egmore

Kapao Dos, the name got me interested! After a quick investigation, found out that they served a bit of everything – American, Chinese, Italian, Asian! Decided to try! Planned a quick lunch with a friend right away. Continue reading

Madurai Kumar Mess, T. Nagar

After an average experience at Madurai Kumar Mess long ago when it opened next to Laksman-Sruthi near Vadapalani signal, never been motivated enough to go back there. However yesterday decided to check out their T. Nagar branch with a friend for a late dinner. Continue reading

Mango Tree, Nungambakkam

Mango Tree, and Chettinadu food? This was the first reaction when I was invited by a friend for lunch. It took me quite by surprise as the name was quite deceptive! Continue reading

Crimson Chakra, Adayar

I’ve been here a few times with friends, family and have always gone back satisfied. There’s something nice about this place, the food, the service or perhaps both in tandem, that make your dining experience pleasant. Continue reading

Crystal Bar, Nungambakkam

Crystal Bar in Hotel Ranjith in Nungambakkam is one of our very old hangout places. This place has an old world charm; no jarring music, no noisy crowd like some restobars these days, just a small nice setting with limited covers that can get full quite often, and the same personal service by their old-time managers and waiters. Continue reading
