GRT Nature Trails, Kodaikanal

Haven’t been writing reviews of hotels lately, but this specific stay prompted me to write again, just to record my experience of a mismatch between expectation and reality. This is going to be a long one, read on if it interests you. Continue reading

Wonderla Resort, Bangalore

We were two families and we stayed here for a weekend. We stayed here on Saturday night and visited the Wonderla Amusement Park on Sunday. My cousin booked two rooms along with the entry to the amusement park, so I am not aware of the prices for the same. Continue reading

Santana Beach Resort, Goa

Wonderful Stay !
We were a family of 2 adults and 2 children, aged 8 and 3. We had a wonderful vacation in Goa and stayed in Santana for 4 nights. It was a pleasant experience overall.  I would definitely come back again and stay here. Continue reading

Hotel Arunachala, Thiruvannamalai

It was just PERFECT !
I would give it 5 stars, not in comparison with the quality or luxury of a five star hotel, but because it does exactly what is expected !  I seriously couldn’t think of anything to complain. Continue reading

PL.A.Krishna Inn, Trichy

We were two friends on a one-day trip to Trichy to meet up with our school friends. We reached Trichy by Rockfort Express around 05:30AM and since we already decided that we would stay here, we walked up to the hotel and it took us about 5 minutes. Check-in was normal, no hassles, but the guy at the reception did not know how to smile. Blame the time, he was not fully awake I guess. It was absolutely unwelcoming !
We were given a room on the second floor. Lift was perfectly working throughout our stay. The room was neat, very decent ambience, and spacious. We were really happy with the room (it was a twin bed room). A nice LCD/LED TV with lot of regional channels, and a few sports channels. The bathroom was absolutely clean, but absence of a bath curtain resulted in most of the place getting wet. Toiletries provided were very basic. Towels were not new, were tired and slightly off-white, but washed and clean. We took a bath around 12:00PM and there was no hot-water. It was just warm. Probably it is only until a specific time, not very sure though.
Room service was fairly quick, but the coffee we ordered was just warm and not even close to being called hot. Too tired to ask for a replacement, we drank that. Our room tariff included a buffet breakfast. The breakfast had very nice spread, tasty food, and the restaurant had a good ambience. Absolutely worth trying.
We checked out around 10:00PM to take a bus back to Chennai, just across the road. Check-out was smooth, this time, a more pleasant person at the reception.
Overall, full marks to the room, restaurant and the location, some improvements in room service, reception and the bathroom would be appreciated.
For the price, the quality of stay was good. No major complaints, I would stay here again.

Vivanta by Taj Fisherman’s Cove

Just wanted to take a short relaxing break with family and staying in Chennai, resorts in ECR were the obvious choices. Checked the availability, most of them were sold out due to Christmas/holidays. However, managed to get a room in this property. Booked through Travelguru portal, redirected from Tripadvisor. The booking procedure was easy and simple.

Leisure Vacations Goldfield Lake Resort, Kumarakom

We were two families and stayed here for a night. All of us were very happy and had a nice stay at this place.
Firstly, the location was awesome, bang on the Vembanad Lake. We arrived from Alleppey by a Houseboat. It was easy to spot this resort and they have a private place to park the houseboat. We directly reached the resort around 09:45AM by the houseboat 🙂 That was cool !
The rooms were ready immediately. The room was spacious, clean and good. The bathroom was clean, but a bit old-school. No geyser for hot water, instead we were given an immersion rod. That was scary with the plastic bucket. It still worked well though. The TV was good with a few channels. Room service was good, we got the extra bed as soon as we asked for it.

The resort in general is clean. The childrens play area was a little dirty, but as soon as we pointed it out, it was cleaned immediately and a good timepass for the kids. The swimming pool was ok, we didnt use it though. There is a spa, but we did not use it.

The restaurant was decent and food was ok too, but what is worth pointing out is that it took a really long time for the food to arrive after you ordered. Around 25 minutes or so, otherwise, taste was ok. The complimentary breakfast was good.
There is NO bar at the resort, So you have to be aware of that. There are bars very close to it though. You can get your drink and have it in your room.

There is an entertainment room, which had table tennis, badminton rackets and shuttle cock, carrom and chess. That was quite good. The person at the reception was helpful, in suggesting places around, arranging for a taxi and so on.

Being in the same row as other luxury resorts, this place is a steal for its price. This place is just right for a nice basic stay. Don’t look to be pampered with a star treatment, that of course comes with a price.

Hotel Citybox, Oslo

I stayed here for about 15 nights in Nov 2013 with a break of 2 nights in between. So had two bookings – 3 nights and 12 nights. The room was spotlessly clean. Basic stuff was provided. The bed was good and you can be assured of a good night’s sleep. The bathroom was fairly spacious compared to the room itself 😉 Ok, for the prices in Oslo, this is a real good choice. There is uninterrupted wi-fi all through which is very convenient. In fact, that is most important as there is no TV in the room. Very centrally located. Just step out and you are about 2 mins away from Jernbanetorget. That is pretty much the center of Oslo and connections are available by train/bus/tram to almost anywhere. Lot of places to eat out nearby. So overall, it is very convenient.
If  were to meet someone from the management, I would definitely ask them this – 😀

“Why would you not have a washing machine and a dryer? It would do a world of good for long-staying guests. In fact, I had to go out searching for a place to wash and dry my clothes. The Royal Rens Vika was damn expensive. So but for a few shirts that I gave them, I had to find a selv vaskerie/mynt vaskerie in Ullevalsveien. It took me quite sometime to figure all this out. Could have been much easier if you had one in the hotel.”

Hotel Arkadia, Friedrichsdorf, Germany

I must have stayed here at least about 5-6 times from 2003 to 2007, some of my stays were for a month or more. My recent visit here was on 16/11/2013 and myself and my friend traveled to Bad Homburg just for a day to meet some friends and just re-live memories of this place.
Hotel Arkadia was the obvious choice. We booked a maisonette and the room was very good. Earlier I had always stayed in a Single bed room. The hotel is comfortable and very good. Am Houiler Platz has a few shops nearby, there are two Chinese restaurants close by, Kim Kim and Me King. S – Bahn station is about 5 minutes by walk and very convenient to get to the city.
Overall it is a very nice place to stay. Internet can be a problem. You have to purchase it and for those who just want to update facebook status on your mobile, it doesnt make sense to spend 15EUR for that. You are better off with your mobile data connection.
Otherwise it is a very nice place to stay. I would definitely recommend this place.
