A wonderful Houseboat experience in Kerala

My friend and I decided to take a short vacation with family and the first thing in mind was backwaters in Kerala.  We had spoken about it earlier, and decided this was the time to do it.  We have a lot of common Mallu friends, checked with them and in fact, one of our friends had a friend in Kerala who owns a houseboat.  So the most important thing was fixed. Then we booked the train tickets through IRCTC and then we also made a reservation in a resort and we were good to go. 🙂

We reached Alleppey station and proceeded to the boat jetty by auto.  There were so many houseboats parked and we were hoping to get into one of them, but it didn’t happen that way 🙂  We had to take another small boat and that took us to ‘our’ houseboat.  It was a first-time experience for both of us, so we were quite eager to get on board.  The houseboat was spacious, clean and well-maintained.  There was a Hall cum dining, 2 bedrooms with attached bathrooms, a kitchen.  It was so exciting that we were all looking at the lake, houseboats, scenic views and the beautiful nature.  As time passed, our enthusiasm came to acceptable levels and that’s when we realized that this is what we are going to see for one full day 🙂

Random clicks during our trip to Alleppey and Kumarakom.  I was just fascinated by the backwaters, houseboats and everything that I saw around Vembanad lake that I couldn’t stop clicking.  I knew it was going to be an overdose of houseboats, but still, each one was so unique and beautiful that I did not want to miss.  Hope you like my clicks too.  The last few photos were clicked in Alleppey beach when we saw an awesome color on the sky.  The sunset was too beautiful.

Leisure Vacations Goldfield Lake Resort, Kumarakom

We were two families and stayed here for a night. All of us were very happy and had a nice stay at this place.
Firstly, the location was awesome, bang on the Vembanad Lake. We arrived from Alleppey by a Houseboat. It was easy to spot this resort and they have a private place to park the houseboat. We directly reached the resort around 09:45AM by the houseboat 🙂 That was cool !
The rooms were ready immediately. The room was spacious, clean and good. The bathroom was clean, but a bit old-school. No geyser for hot water, instead we were given an immersion rod. That was scary with the plastic bucket. It still worked well though. The TV was good with a few channels. Room service was good, we got the extra bed as soon as we asked for it.

The resort in general is clean. The childrens play area was a little dirty, but as soon as we pointed it out, it was cleaned immediately and a good timepass for the kids. The swimming pool was ok, we didnt use it though. There is a spa, but we did not use it.

The restaurant was decent and food was ok too, but what is worth pointing out is that it took a really long time for the food to arrive after you ordered. Around 25 minutes or so, otherwise, taste was ok. The complimentary breakfast was good.
There is NO bar at the resort, So you have to be aware of that. There are bars very close to it though. You can get your drink and have it in your room.

There is an entertainment room, which had table tennis, badminton rackets and shuttle cock, carrom and chess. That was quite good. The person at the reception was helpful, in suggesting places around, arranging for a taxi and so on.

Being in the same row as other luxury resorts, this place is a steal for its price. This place is just right for a nice basic stay. Don’t look to be pampered with a star treatment, that of course comes with a price.
