Mango Tree, Nungambakkam

Mango Tree, and Chettinadu food? This was the first reaction when I was invited by a friend for lunch. It took me quite by surprise as the name was quite deceptive! Continue reading

Crystal Bar, Nungambakkam

Crystal Bar in Hotel Ranjith in Nungambakkam is one of our very old hangout places. This place has an old world charm; no jarring music, no noisy crowd like some restobars these days, just a small nice setting with limited covers that can get full quite often, and the same personal service by their old-time managers and waiters. Continue reading

Velu Family Restaurant, Nungambakkam

A pretty mediocre experience at Velu Family Restaurant on Valluvar Kottam High Road. Earlier, it used to be known as Velu Military Hotel, and used to be quite popular amoung our friends’ circles. Since it has been a while, a friend and I decided to try! Continue reading

Kappa Chakka Kandhari, Nungambakkam

How can one review a Kerala restaurant without sampling their seafood and beef preparations? So I preferred to go along with a few other foodies, who are quite prominent in the Chennai Food Scene, with a palate for beef and seafood. So this review is a sort of a mix of opinions of a few individuals based on what each one sampled. Lets call them N, G, K and myself. Continue reading

Hotel Crescent, Nungambakkam

A friend and I decided to head to one of the places that is known for wonderful non-vegetarian fare for breakfast – Hotel Crescent, in Nungambakkam. I have been there a few times, and always for the Sunday Breakfast. I have written about my first experience here! Continue reading

Hotel Crescent, Nungambakkam

What better than a non-vegetarian breakfast on a Sunday Morning ! Most of the places I know serve Idiyappam and Mutton Paya for breakfast. Since I have restrictions by choice to eating red meat, my friend suggested that I should head to Hotel Crescent in Nungambakkam for tasty Kerala Chicken dishes. In spite of hearing about this place, haven’t been there ever, so decided to tick this place off my list. I should admit that I have a liking for Kerala food, so there was no looking back. Continue reading

Mana Andhra

An absolutely unplanned dinner. Had to meet someone in Cafe Coffee Day, The Square in Nungambakkam. The meeting took much longer than expected and quite hungry that we were, headed straight into this place which is right next to Cafe Coffee Day in Khader Nawaz Khan Road, in Nungambakkam. Continue reading

Anise, Taj Coromandel

When I need a beer or two well past midnight, the first name that comes to my mind is Anise in Taj Coromandel in Nungambakkam. I like The Flying Elephant in Park Hyatt too, and it is even closer to home, but they have some limitations with Stags entry on weekends. Didn’t want to take a chance and end up in The Dining Room, headed straight to Taj Coromandel instead. Continue reading

Sandy’s Chocolate Laboratory

Myself and a friend had to meet someone in Khader Nawaz Khan Road in Nungambakkan, and the moment you hear ‘KNK Road’, you know you’re going to eat in one of the nice places in that area. I have visited quite a few restaurants there, but this time, I ticked off one of the nice places which has been on my list for too long. It is not that I haven’t heard about Sandy’s Chocolate Laboratory earlier, but just did not manage to get a seat the last two times I tried. Continue reading

Jakob’s Kitchen

When you have to meet someone in Khader Nawaz Khan Road ( At Cafe Coffee Day, The Square), chances of coming back home without having dinner in one of the places around are very remote, especially when the meeting lasts until 09:00PM. Continue reading
