A wonderful trip to Kodaikanal with my classmates from school, and we managed to cover three significant Biryani places during this trip! Quite a few of my friends are from Trichy and they are quite familiar with the places in and around Trichy, especially the ones that serve mouth-watering Biryani. Continue reading
This was the last meal of our trip to Trichy, we were supposed to leave to Chennai the next morning at 05:00AM. We stayed in Ramyas, we were too tired to venture out for dinner after 2 days of fun and frolic at our school reunion meet. So we decided to go upstairs to the roof garden restaurant ‘Thendral’. This place has withstood the test of time and has been there for many years now. I was in Trichy for a Twenty years school reunion and most of my friends were of the opinion that we should eat once in Vijay Mess, in Alexandria Road, Cantonment. Continue reading
Twenty years after passing out of Campion, I visited my school and the feeling was truly memorable. So nostalgic, the classrooms, playgound, everything reminded me of my days at school. Continue reading
We were two friends on a one-day trip to Trichy to meet up with our school friends. We reached Trichy by Rockfort Express around 05:30AM and since we already decided that we would stay here, we walked up to the hotel and it took us about 5 minutes. Check-in was normal, no hassles, but the guy at the reception did not know how to smile. Blame the time, he was not fully awake I guess. It was absolutely unwelcoming !
We were given a room on the second floor. Lift was perfectly working throughout our stay. The room was neat, very decent ambience, and spacious. We were really happy with the room (it was a twin bed room). A nice LCD/LED TV with lot of regional channels, and a few sports channels. The bathroom was absolutely clean, but absence of a bath curtain resulted in most of the place getting wet. Toiletries provided were very basic. Towels were not new, were tired and slightly off-white, but washed and clean. We took a bath around 12:00PM and there was no hot-water. It was just warm. Probably it is only until a specific time, not very sure though.
Room service was fairly quick, but the coffee we ordered was just warm and not even close to being called hot. Too tired to ask for a replacement, we drank that. Our room tariff included a buffet breakfast. The breakfast had very nice spread, tasty food, and the restaurant had a good ambience. Absolutely worth trying.
We checked out around 10:00PM to take a bus back to Chennai, just across the road. Check-out was smooth, this time, a more pleasant person at the reception.
Overall, full marks to the room, restaurant and the location, some improvements in room service, reception and the bathroom would be appreciated.
For the price, the quality of stay was good. No major complaints, I would stay here again.
A friend and I had dinner here just before heading back to our hotel room to catch a bus back to Chennai. Continue reading
In the nineties, an ice cream used to cost rupees two, today, it costs rupees six 🙂 Continue reading
From the mid-nineties, I still remember this place as one of its kind. A coffee shop which served beer, tomato and mint pizza for Rupees 15 are still very clear in my mind. Continue reading
