Aki Bay

Aki Bay, a place where I’ve been wanting to go for a long time now. Seen quite a few pictures of the gorgeous Ramen bowls and was quite tempted to try. My wife and I managed to visit today, and it was a very different, pleasant dining experience overall! Continue reading

Murugan Idli Shop, Velachery

Personally, after a couple of bad experiences with the T Nagar outlet, many years ago, I never really attempted to step into this place. It was more about the attitude of the waiters than the food itself. Their outlet in Kaveripakkam on the Chennai-Bangalore Highway was the one that got me visiting the place again. That is my regular pitstop on my way to Bangalore. I have visited this place quite a few times and one of my visits is documented here ! Continue reading

Mainland China, Phoenix Market City

It was my son’s Birthday dinner and we gave him the option of choosing what to have for dinner and he chose Chinese. Basically he wanted dumplings, noodles and stuff. The nearest option was Mainland China in Phoenix Market City. We have been here a few times and had a pretty decent experience, always. Decided to stick to this place. However, I spotted the Thuraipakkam outlet on Zomato serving dinner buffet, and was quite excited! We headed all the way from Velachery to Thuraipakkam only to be told its closed ! Damn it, even Zomato screws up sometimes! Made a U-turn and headed all the way back to Phoenix Market City. We lost a good 40 minutes doing this, and of course the to-and-fro toll charges that we paid for nothing ! Continue reading

Bistro 100

I’ve been seeing this place for quite sometime now as its just a stone’s throw away from my place. Recently there has been a lot of interest among foodies on Facebook groups about this place, and I decided to check it out ! True to its name, Bistro 100 is more than just a cafe, the menu was elaborate and had a wide range of varieties to choose from. Continue reading

Courtallam Border Parotta

Recent addition to the Velachery Food Scene is Courtallam Border Parotta, which replaced Mast Kalandar on the 100 Feet Bypass Road. I have been seeing this new banner for the last week or ten days, and came to know from friends in Food Groups that it actually opened ! Staying just two blocks away, I had to try. I’ll keep the original vs fake discussions out of this review as I do not have any verified information on this. Continue reading

Haven Sampoorna

It was a long day indeed, finished with the Annual Day celebrations in my daughter’s school, decided to eat out. Heading straight to a restaurant after the celebrations was a practice that we have been following for the last few years ! It was a Saturday and wife preferred vegetarian. Since daughter was already tired, we wanted to head to some place in the vicinity. Obviously Vegetarian in Velachery, two places were in my mind – Pind and Haven Sampoorna, decided on the latter ! Continue reading

Coal Barbecues

A lunch with family after a gap of two weeks. Had no problems deciding on where to go, it had to be some place we haven’t visited, and what better than Coal Barbecues that was right across the road, a stone’s throw from our place. Continue reading
